This is what my studio does not look like…most days...this is also not what Oakley and I look like most days…
These are some photos from my Fall 2024 photoshoot with Oakley, taken by my photographer/printer, Ken Chow. I was super excited to hear that Women Create magazine wanted to feature Oakley in their Spring 2025 (yes, coming soon!) publication, under the “Pet Tales” section. Even though this is a small spread (1-2 pages) for the magazine, I jumped at the opportunity to get lots of photos that show my studio space, art, and art buddy (AKA, best friend, Oakley)…. Just like I enjoy transparency in my watercolours, I also like transparency in human nature…. Let me tell you- this is not what my studio looks, hardly ever, or what I look like day to day (I really tried to look presentable for the shoot!)…. Oakley on the other hand, looks pretty darn good everyday. Except for when I first rescued him and worked as his doggy groomer- he turned out to be a schnauzer most days…(thank goodness for the mobile dog groomer that floats him in a harness in the heated van)…Yes, Oakley’s “poodle parlour” visits are more expensive than my own hair appts! … It wasn’t until doing these photoshoots that I saw what a natural model Oakley is, and how much he loves to pose and be the centre of it all (as close to his mommy as possible, though)…. Stay tuned for my next blog…. I will show you Oakley when we rescued him 10 years ago (yes, he is actually a senior and we have no idea what his age is). Also, I will post some real photos of my studio… I just need to clear some space to walk through with my camera so I don’t end up on the floor with my piles of papers and art supplies! Oh, and Happy 10th Anniversary to the love of my life and number one sounding board when I feel overwhelmed with everything that comes with living a creative life as a sensitive human. Jonathan and I have been together, really, for almost 20 years…. that’s another blog…. Oh, and it’s also Oakley’s rescue-iversary! So much significance in 2015 for the Dawrants…
